This book, titled as a (symbol), continues Reed’s experimentation with the material and presentation possibilities of the book form. Each volume comes in a handcrafted custom glass case with sliding glass drawer. The title and colophon are sandblasted into the surface of the case itself.
Instead of being printed, the images are etched into paper with a laser engraving machine. The process is slow and each book takes in excess of 24 hours to physically produce.
On the edge of fire and dust the book is a conflation of the past and future. The imagery moves from the furthest edges of space to geologic and societal development on earth. Juxtaposing fantasy and science Reed takes us on a journey that explores the boundaries of time.
