2113 is a book in 2 parts. The glass tubes contain pages created during the process of printing the original, "2013," 10 years ago. They are principally mash-up's of pre-existing pages resulting in unique images. Some do contain more straightforward prints from the original but all have been altered by the process of sealing them in the glass with fire. They are messages for the future, a gesture of hope that someone will be there to see them in 90 years time.
The glass cube is, in many ways, the ultimate realization of a future book. Shards of paper (again, from printed sheets from the original production 10 years ago) have been but into shapes referencing the ink pad forms from the printers used to create the book. It is truly an object that is not yet ready to be deciphered, holding messages and keys for a time outside of our own.
